LibreELEC USB-SD Creator v1.2

LibreELEC USB-SD Creator v1.2 is released with initial support for right-to-left GUI localisation in Farsi (Persian) and Hebrew, the addition of Lithuanian and Asturian translations, fixes for writing to mmc devices, use behind a proxy server, and other minor issues seen on macOS sierra and Linux since v1.1. The project team are really happy with the positive reviews the USB-SD Creator app is receiving in blog posts and social media, and website stats show app downloads/week now exceed the number of direct .img file downloads. It’s another little reason fuelling rapid growth in our active-install numbers. If you would like to see a language added...

LibreELEC USB-SD Creator!

An easy to use application to create bootable USB and SD card installation media has been on the staff wish-list for a long long time, so we are delighted to reveal the official “LibreELEC USB-SD Creator” app for Linux, macOS and Windows. The app has four clearly marked steps to guide you through downloading the latest official LibreELEC image for your hardware and writing it to removable media, and checking “show all” enables selection of previous releases and current Alpha/Beta preview builds. You can also load a local image file, allowing the app to be used with previously downloaded images, or development and community created images that...

Pirates Ahoy

In the last week we started to block specific accounts associated with add-on repos and “builds” that promote access to pirate content from following us, messaging us, tagging us in photo’s etc. on social sites like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, YouTube. We did this because piracy is not a fun, crazy or cool thing. If you associate us with pirate add-ons, builds and services, or the resellers and manufacturers who pre-load them, it harms our name and reputation. Kodi maintains a list of known piracy add-ons. It is never comprehensive as pirate sites change, add-ons and builds die frequently, new ones appear. If...

LibreELEC (Jarvis) v7.0 BETA2

v6.95.2 (Beta 2) resolves video issues for the Raspberry Pi users who comprise a majority of our users. It also prevents a device ID overlap between the bcma/wl wireless drivers in Generic and adds a patch that may reduce (but not eliminate) some “settings lost at shutdown” issues which are an ongoing Kodi problem common to multiple distros. Kodi team are now expected to release 16.1 final next weekend. If this happens “Plan C” will be to release our 7.0.0 build with new logo branding during the next week. ** IMPORTANT ** LibreELEC operates a 24-hour ‘canary’ period between major release files...

Heads Up!

Just a quick post to let you know that the LibreELEC logo branding will change. The current “branch” logo suited at the time of forking because it resonated with team members who type “git branch” on a daily basis; branching and forking have similar meaning to developers. Since forking the LibreELEC team has absorbed people who are less development focussed and we started to look at how our logo is used. The leafy green shades of the branch look nice on the website masthead but aren’t so good in the settings add-on when contrasted against the graphics and backgrounds of the random skins people choose;...
